Cricket
Our prospects for the Cricket season of 1880 were not bright, as it was understood that only F.C. Ryde (T.B.), the eleventh man of last season, would be here, and that upon him would devolve the arduous task of giving away ten ‘pinks’. Benbow however came back, but did not retain the captaincy, and Sandwith also played for us. Our first match was against ‘Old Haileyburians’ when we fell utterly to pieces, but improved considerably before meeting M.C.C. and Gr: and were able to make a good match of it. The results of the succeeding matches will show that the Eleven eventually came up to the usual average.
