On a Thursday evening this term Mr Newton of the British Museum (well known as having discovered & brought to England the ‘Halicarnassus marbles’) gave to us – that is, as many of the higher forms as chose to come – a most interesting and instructive lecture on the discovery by Mr Wood of the temple of Diana of Ephesus. The lecture was illustrated by numerous maps, places & drawings. On a subsequent day Mr Newton took a party of us for an hour and a half over the ‘marbles’ at the museum – further to illustrate his former lecture.
