On Shrove Tuesday the farce which is all that is left of the Pancake Greaze was gone through; the sixth went down school & did not stay to see it. C.Bompas/ Prin.Opp
Early in February the Head Master was suddenly taken very ill with a clot of blood in the right arm & was out of school for the remainder of the term. Mr Sloman, master of the Q.S.S performed the necessary duties in the absence of the Head Master. C.Bompas/ Prin.Opp
On St David’s Day Sir Watkins Williams Wynn following the example of his uncle came down & gave the guineas to the Welsh boys in the school. C.Bompas/ Prin.Opp
H. Morgan Brown Q.S , obtained the Gumbleton prize, the subject being ‘The Athemian Expedition to Syracuse’ The Ireland Latin prose prize was awarded to B. M. Goldie Q.S. a piece of more’s utopia being set. C.A. Sherring Q.S. won the Ireland Greek Verse prize. Translating a piece of Shelley’s “Prometheus unbound” C.Bompas/ Prin.Opp
A collection was made on the festival of the conversion of St Paul which amounted to £21. 9 s. 0d. It was given to the parish of Christ Church, Watney St. C.Bompas/ Prin.Opp
The Queen went in prosecution to open parliament on the 21st January. By the kindness of the Dean a stand was erected at the East end of Henry VII chapal for the use of the school which showed its loyalty by cheering vociferously the Queen & Prince of Wales. C.Bompas/ Prin.Opp

The arrangement of the terms & holidays have been altered. The Lent term & the summer term, each contain 12 weeks, and the Christmas term 13 weeks. The Christmas holidays are 4 weeks long, the Easter 3 weeks & the summer ones 8 weeks long. The summer term ends on the Wednesday before the last…
