I may observe, for the edification of future Head T.Boys, that on the occasion of the marriage of H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught Scott was stingy enough to refuse us a half holiday. I hope that future generations may be more fortunate in their Head Masters. William Bell Pri: Opp:
On Shrove Tuesday the pancake was thrown as usual. It fell between the Under School & the Under Fifth Form & after a good greeze was secured whole by C. Campbell (TB), who afterwards got the sovereign from the Dean. It was last won in 1872 by R.W.S. Vidal (captn).
E.M. Mee (who gained a scholarship from the school at Corpus Oxf: in 1872) was given a fellowship at Queen’s in the beginning of the year. E.V. Arnold (captain 1874-5) was 15th wrangler this year.
Mr. H.A. Severn, who has been very successful as a scientific lecturer in Australia & New Zealand, gave three lectures to us in school on Jan. 29th, Feb. 5th and 7th upon Voltaic Electricity, Spectrum Analysis and Magnetism.
