No. 219

The Commemoration service was held in abbey on Monday Nov. 17. The prayers etc were intoned by Rev Edwin Price who is leaving the abbey for Bishop’s Auckland. The Dean of Lincoln preached. His chief aim served to be to prove that Westminster is degenerate, principally on the grounds of the abolition of water. His sermon which was unnecessarily long fell very flat. There seemed to be some misunderstanding between the singers from the school and the Abbey choristers, as to the time of the chants, and this rather impaired the harmony of the musical part of the service. This year the anthem was omitted, its place being taken by the hymn “Salvator mundi Domine” from the old Dormitory prayers of the Q.S.S.
