No. 471

On February 26th our eleven went down to Godalming and were followed immediately after school by a large number of supporters. Their ground maintained its usual character of hard and dry dustiness which seemed to no small extent to throw us out. Their eleven which xhad not been defeated once in the season was deprived of the serviced of W.A. Hamilton and our eleven suffered from the absence of A.A. Bird Q.S. which compelled Squire to play back alone.

The game was fast and well-contested. At half-time the game stood 2-2 both our goals having been kicked by Ingram; after half-time Stephenson kicked a third goal for us which was disallowed and just before time Charterhouse scored the winning point. Our eleven was thus defeated but not disgraced. Their team played fully up to their reputation but the feature of the match was Squire’s back-play which will not readily be forgotten by any who had the pleasure of seeing it.
