Liddell’s second son died on Sunday the 4th of December, & consequently he was out of school for nearly a week. Mrs Liddell who happened to be at Brighton for her health came back to London directly. Roe and the other monitors went of Liddell’s House soon after and said that on account of his loss and Mrs Liddell’s indisposition, which of course would be considerably increased by her anxiety and trouble, and therefore would be wholly incapacitated from attending to the Play Dresses, they would rather not act this year. Liddell however very kindly said that he would attend their rehearsals if they would like that the Play should not be stopped, to which proposal they very purposely declared they would not consent.
