The Match for the sculls came off as usual this year. The candidates were Barnes Q.S. Wright T.B. Cook Q.S. Horne Q.S. Marryat Q.S. The race (in which Barnes was upset) was easily won by Wright making this the third year that the sculls have been won by Town Boys.
A very good race took place near the end of the half between two fours, made out of fellows in the eight. It was to have been stroke against bow but two oars being kept off the water the boat were made up otherwise. They were as follows Stroke 1. Wright T.B. 2. Macready T.B.…
Many spirited endeavours were made to get up boat races this term which had not great success, although more boats were on the water this half, than had been for some time since. This year, Liddell in consequence of the extreme negligence of the Upper Election, would not give the eight leave off lock in, to go to the Thames Regatta nor even have off names in the evening. However we accomplished it in the evening by hard pulling and came in for one or two sculling matches…
