To day being St Patrick’s day we had an early play, & though it was pouring with rain, several fellows went up to the Red House, & ran a steeple chase in Battersea fields.

This year 1838 in consequence of the low state of the school it was agreed upon by the T.B. and Q.S. that the annual ditch leaping in Battersea Fields should not take place.

A race for a trifling sweepstake was got up among the T.B. it was run over Battersea fields the distance was about a mile with 7 leaps in it, the following fellows started

Forester
Merewether
Maule
Wingfield
Dudman
Whittaker
Bentinck
Astley won. Whittaker being second and Merewether third.
A race was also got up this month between the following boats two pair of sculls in each boat.

In 1836, It was agreed to leave off that beastly, annual practice of ditch leaping over Battersea Fields; for which, Dr Williamson gave us an early play. On a former season, we had been prevented going on the water, on account of the number of fellows out of school with colds, caused by ditch leaping.
