The Sports took place on Friday and Saturday April 5th and 6th.  The weather was extremely cold and the strong wind seriously affected the times.

FIRST DAY.

  1. Flat race. 300 yards handicap.

Time 42 seconds.  Won easily: Second and third close together.

Second Heat  1. A. H. Hogarth (QS) (2 yards). 2. B. C. Boulter (QS) (8 yards). 3. P. T. Jones (HBB) (8 yards).

Time 40 seconds. Won by 3 yards. 1 yard between second and third.

  • Flat race. 100 yards  Under 16

1. H. McKenna (R)  2. W. F. Corfield (HBB) Time 13 seconds. McKenna led throughout

  • Throwing the cricket ball Under 15.

1. H. R. Flack. 2. E. Æ. Cotterill.

Distance 67 yards.

  • Flat race. 100 yards. Open. Challenge Cup.

Very close race between Hogarth winning by inches.

An easy win for Cunningham.

No. 8.  High Jump Open. Ladies’ Challenge Cup

  1. T. H. Corfield (HBB)                 2. B. Maughan (HBB)

Height 4 feet 11⅟2 inches.

A poor jump, especially after last year’s record

No. 9. High Jump Under 15

1. E. Æ. Cotterill (QS)      2. H. N. Wyatt (A)

Height 4 feet 4 in.

Both jumped neatly as did Flack who was third.

No. 10. Hurdle Race Open  Final Heat

1.  A. H. Hogarth (QS) 2 F. Cunningham (R)

A very good race, Hogarth only just winning.  For some unknown reason, the time was not taken; but it seemed a fast race.

No. 11.  Long Jump Under 15

1. W. V. Rayner (HB) 2. L. Y. Barnby (R)

Distance 14 ft 9 in

Barnby and Lloyd (A) tied for second place, and on jumping it off Barnby jumped 14 feet 11 in

No. 12. Half Mile with Hurdles. Challenge Cup.

1. A. W. Raikes (A)  2. G. Simonds (R) 3. H. 0. C. Beasley (R)

Time 2 minutes 32 sec

Simonds was leading over the hurdles, but fell and Raikes won by 8 yards. Bad third.

No. 13  Throwing The Hammer

Distance  56 ft 6 in

No. 14. Half Mile Handicap.

(Prize given by Rev. W. Failes.)

Won by 20 yards; Good third.

No. 15.  Inter-House Tug-Of-War.

Rigaud’s beat Grant’s easily (2-0).

Whittow ran very well and won by a yard. Bad third.

2.  300 Yards Under 14.

Won easily.

3. 440 Yards under 15. Challenge Cup.

Time 65⅕ sec

Rayner led throughout and won by 8 yards.

4. Throwing The Crick Et Ball. Open.

1. H. 0. C. Beasley (R)  2 R. E. More (R)

Distance, 80 yds 6 inches.

Won by about a foot.

5. Quarter Open Challenge Cup.

Time 58⅘ sec.

Whittow ran well and won by 2 yards.

6. Long Jump Open.

1. F. Cunningham (R)      2. T. H. Corfield (HBB)

Distance, 17 ft 6⅟2 inches.

7. 100 Yards. Under 15.

1. W. Stevens (HBB).       2. E. Æ. Cotterill (QS)

Time  13⅖  seconds.

Won by 2 yards

8. Mile Challenge Cup.

1. A. W. Raikes (A)            2. J.W.G Simonds (R)     3. A. H. Hogarth (QS)

Time 5 minutes 5 sec

12 started.  At the end of the third lap Raikes was well ahead and drawing away won by 25 yards.  Beasley was fourth and Stamp (QS) fifth.

9.  Hurdle Race. Under 15 Final

1. W. Stevens (HBB). 2. A. C. Barnby (R)

Time, 21⅕ sec

Good race

10. Quarter Under 16.

1. H. McKenna (R)             2. W. F. Corfield (HBB)  3. R. N. R. Blaker (R)

Time, 61⅕ seconds.

Led all the way and won easily.

11. Consolation Race. 300 Yards.

1. J. H. Reynolds (QS) (10 yards).                2. H. C. Smith (8 yards).

3. H. Y. L inghorne (QS) (5 yards).

12. Inter-house tug-of-war Final

Rigaud’s beat H.BB (2-0)  The heavier team won with the greatest ease.

13. Servants’ race

1. Weller. 2. F. Philips.

14. 0.WW. Race

1. M. Cheadle. 2. H. McHardie.

Close race, Both were just ahead of Veitch.

15. Tug of War

Q.SS. beat T.BB (2-0) QSS pulled better together.

The prizes were given away by Clements R. Markham, Esq., F.R.S., P.R.G.S. (O.W.) The Head-master then made a speech thanking him for coming and calling for three cheers.  Mr. Markham replied and asked for the same compliment for the O.W.W present. The proceedings then terminated.
