The twenty-fifth match between Westminster and Charterhouse was played at Godalming on Saturday March 9th and resulted in a win for Charterhouse by six goals to none. The weather was cold and wet. Immediately on Hancock starting the game Charterhouse scored (0-1). Hands was given against us and Austen took the kick and scored again (0-2). These had taken about four minutes to obtain. Our forwards now realised that the game had begun and Beasley tried to start some kind of an attack but the other forwards without exception was helpess, in fact were rather in the way. Once more the Charterhouse forwards swarmed round our goal but Stenning cleardd and the ball was removed from very close proximity to our goal, but the Carthusian goal-keep never had any cuause for anxiety. The ensuring play needs little description but our back division managed to keep them out for a while, Probyn showing great vigour. Just before half-time G. Ryder shot gently and Stenning made way for the third goal. After half-time a fourth goal was very soon added and after this Beasley made a good single-handed run combination being long ago given up and caused Broome to use his hands: we continued the purpose but Wilson relieved and Charterhouse scored again from a corner (0-5). Then the only bit of Westminster comination was seen and Guy put in an excellent shot which was very well saved. Charterhouse however scored once again in the last four minutes (0-6) and so ended a miserable match. For Westminster, Probyn’s vigorous play was invaluable and Whittow also did well. Barnett made a most promising debut, but was tired out at half-time. Of the forwards Beasley was undoubtedly the only one who did not disgrace himself, and this is the more creditable to him as he received no support from his insides, and moreover was playing out of his place. Things might have been somewhat better and less bad, if Van der Gucht had been able to play, Blaker being much too tight. Teams —
