Lent Term 1895

In December occurred the death of the Rev. Charles Broderick Scott D.D. late headmaster.  Born in Dublin in 1825, he was educated at Eton and Trin: Coll: Cambridge. His University career was a most brilliant one.  In 1847 he was Pitt University Scholar, an in the following year was 22nd Wrangler and also Senior Classic being hacketed with the present Bishop of Durham.  He became a fellow of Trinity and in 1855 he became Headmaster of Westminster.  When he came there were only 116 fellows in the School, and when he left, this number was doubled. Owing to failing health of his wife, he retired in 1883, and the appreciation of his services is shown by the notice of the Scott Library, as a memorial of him.  The remainder of his life was given up to nursing his invalid wife, and all his other occuptions he regarded as of secondary importance to this.  His death was deeply deplored not only by his former colleagues, but by everyone whom at any time came into contact with him.
