Our Athletic sports which were held on October 18 + 19 were chiefly remarkable for the success of R.T. Squire T.B Grant\u2019s who won the Mile, Half Mile with Hurdles, Half Mile Handicap, Open 100 and got 2nd<\/sup> in the hurdles. R.H. Coke Q.S. won the jumps and the hurdles. G.E. Eden T.B. won the Quarter Mile and got second in the open hundred.<\/span><\/p>\n

First day.<\/p>\n

Throwing the Cricket Ball (under 15) Harrison 65 yds 4 in \u2013 1. Wodehouse 64 yds 8 in \u2013 2.<\/p>\n

Open Mile. Squire \u2013 1. Forster \u2013 2. Higgins \u2013 3. Jenner \u2013 4. Won by 40 yards in 5 min 0 \u00be secs. Forster ran very pluckily with a sprained wrist which did not in the opinion of the judges affect the result.<\/p>\n

Throwing the Cricket Ball Open. Eden 91 yds 1 ft \u2013 1. Wetton 90 yds 6 in \u2013 2.<\/p>\n

100 yards (under 15), Yglesias \u2013 1. Winstanley \u2013 2. F. Long \u2013 3. Time 13 \u00bd secs.<\/p>\n

Long Jump Open. Coke 19. 1 \u00bd – 1. Waterfield 16.5 \u2013 2.<\/p>\n

440 yards (under 16) Sutherland \u2013 1. F. Thorpe \u2013 2. R. Armitage \u2013 3. Won easily 8 yards. Time 68 seconds.<\/p>\n

Hurdle Race Open \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heat 1. Coke \u2013 1. Eden \u2013 2. 15 \u00bc<\/p>\n

Heat 2. Squire \u2013 1. Waterfield \u2013 2. 15 \u00be<\/p>\n

High Jump (under 15). J.M. Dale (4ft 3in) \u2013 1. Wimbush \u2013 2.<\/p>\n

300 yards (under 14) Wimbush \u2013 1. Lewis \u2013 2. Phillimore \u2013 3. Time 45 \u00bc sec.<\/p>\n

High Jump (Open to all) Waterfield 5ft 0 \u00be in. \u2013 1. Coke 4ft 11 \u00bc in. \u2013 2.<\/p>\n

Half Mile Handicap (120 yards limit). Squire (penalised 15 yds) \u2013 1. Morison (20 yds start) \u2013 2. Frere (30 yds start) \u2013 3. Time 2 min 16 \u00be sec.<\/p>\n

100 yds (under 16) R. Armitage \u10b5\u10b5 1. Sutherland \u10b5\u10b5 2. Ricci \u10b5 3. Yglesias \u10b5 0. Time 11 \u00bd sec. This was one of the closest things seen for some time at Vincent Square. Armitage & Sutherland tied for 1st<\/sup> place and Ricci & Yglesias for 3rd<\/sup>. On running off the judge was again unable to separate Sutherland and Armitage \u2013 Ricci beat Yglesias. The double dead heat was run off on the next day, Armitage proving victorious.<\/p>\n

Second day.<\/p>\n

Throwing the Hammer \u2013 1. H.T. Clarke 73ft 5in. 2. E.C. Frere 57ft 3 in.<\/p>\n

Half Mile with Hurdles. 1. Squire. 2. Forster. 3. Higgins. Time 2 min 23 sec.<\/p>\n

Long Jump (under 15) 1. Yglesias 13ft 11 in. 2. C.F. Rogers 13ft 8 in.<\/p>\n

150 yards (under 13) 1. M\u2019Hardy 2. Freeman 3. Flynn. Time 22 \u00bd sec.<\/p>\n

Hurdle Race final 1. Coke 2. Squire 3. Eden Time not properly taken. A close race which Coke was adjudicated to have won by a yard (!!) a decision which failed to give general satisfaction.<\/p>\n

440 yards (under 15) 1. Yglesias 2. Winstanley 3 Dale J.M. Time 66 \u00bc yards. Won by two yards.<\/p>\n

Pole-jump Coke 7ft 7in w.o. The less said about this the better. May the event be struck off the card next year.<\/p>\n

100 yards (open) 1 Squire. 2 Eden 3 Bain. Time 11 \u00bc secs (2). An excellent race although the three placed men got off badly. Eden and Squire soon drew ahead the latter winning a most thrilling race by a foot. A good third.<\/p>\n

Hurdles (under 15) \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heat 1. Harrison \u2013 1 Fawcett \u2013 2<\/p>\n

Heat 2. Paul \u2013 1 Langston \u2013 2<\/p>\n

Heat 3 Wimbush \u2013 1 Winstanley \u2013 2<\/p>\n

Final Wimbush \u10b5 1 Harrison \u10b5 2. P. Fawcett 3. In the deciding course Harrison fell.<\/p>\n

Quarter (open) Eden \u2013 1. Morison \u2013 2. Bain \u2013 3. Time 57 \u00bd secs. Eden led all the way and won by 8 yards. 4 between second and third.<\/p>\n

Old Westminster Race 1. C.Y. Bedford. 2. W.C. Bedford. 3. Bailey. Time 14 1\/5 sec.<\/p>\n

Bicycle Handicap (two miles) 1. Forster 100 yards. 2. Brooks 300. 3. Bird scratch. Forster\u2019s injury softened the hearts of the committee towards him and obtained him far more than his share of start so that he won by 100 yards. Time 9 min 12 3\/5 secs.<\/p>\n

Consolation Race 2 Scoones 2 Burridge 3 Lynch Time 37 4\/5 sec.<\/p>\n

The Tug of War was won by the Q.SS<\/p>\n
