Cricket<\/u><\/p>\n

Our prospects for the Cricket season of 1880 were not bright, as it was understood that only F.C. Ryde (T.B.), the eleventh man of last season, would be here, and that upon him would devolve the arduous task of giving away ten \u2018pinks\u2019. Benbow however came back, but did not retain the captaincy, and Sandwith also played for us. Our first match was against \u2018Old Haileyburians\u2019 when we fell utterly to pieces, but improved considerably before meeting M.C.C. and Gr: and were able to make a good match of it. The results of the succeeding matches will show that the Eleven eventually came up to the usual average.<\/p>\n

v. Old Haileyburians<\/u> April 17th<\/sup> lost by 84 runs<\/p>\n

O.H. 122 \u2013 Westminster School 38 (Higgins 12)<\/p>\n

For us Sandwith took four wickets in five balls<\/p>\n

v. M.C.C. and Ground<\/u> June 5th<\/sup> lost by 9 runs<\/p>\n

For us Sandwith made, not out, 30, Benbow 21. Ryde 16. Reece 12. Higgins 11.<\/p>\n

v. Incogniti<\/u> June 9th<\/sup> lost by 128 runs<\/p>\n

Westminster 122 and 38 for eight wickets<\/p>\n

v. Old Westminsters <\/u>June 12th<\/sup> won by 264 runs<\/p>\n

Westminster 185 \u2013 Wetton 47. Higgins 45. Benbow 21. Dale 16. Robson 13. Bain 10+<\/sup> not out.<\/p>\n

Higgins took 8 crickets for 32 runs, and 4 wickets for 25 runs.<\/p>\n

v. Nondescripts<\/u> July 3rd<\/sup> lost by 129 runs<\/p>\n

Westminster 50 and 29 for 3 wickets<\/p>\n

For us Higgins made 25 and, not out, 9 \u2013 (and took 6 wickets for 82 runs) Benbow 5 and 19<\/p>\n

v. I Zingari<\/u> This match was put off as I.Z. could not get up an Eleven for the day fixed, July 7th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

v. Lords and Commons.<\/u> July 17th<\/sup> won by 71 runs.<\/p>\n
